Administration (FHWA)
Its mission is to carry out the Federal

International Organization for
Standardisation (ISO) - source of ISO 9000 and more than 13,000
International Standards for business, government and society.
Institute of Transportation Engineers
(ITE) - international educational and scientific association of
transportation professionals who are responsible for meeting mobility
and safety needs. ITE facilitates the application of technology and
scientific principles to research, planning, functional design,
implementation, operation, policy development and management for any
mode of ground transportation.
Manual on
Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) This
document defines the standards used by road managers nationwide to install and maintain traffic control devices on all streets and highways. The MUTCD
is published by the FHWA.
The MUTCD audience includes the insurance industry, law enforcement agencies, academic institutions, private industry, and construction and engineering concerns.
